Based in the heart of Melbourne’s performing arts precinct of Southbank, Iwaki Auditorium is a small concert hall that comfortably seats up to 400 people. The space features full orchestral lighting and a pneumatic orchestral percussion riser.

The auditorium is named after Maestro Hiroyuki Iwaki whose long association with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra resulted in him being named Conductor Laureate.

Ticketing
For performances and events at the Iwaki Auditorium, our ticket desk is located in the main entry foyer of the ABC building, accessible via Southbank Blvd. This desk will be open for ticket collection and sales from one hour before the start of each performance.

Getting to the Iwaki Auditorium

Parking is available in the Arts Centre Melbourne/NGV car park or at the Australian Ballet Centre car park, both accessible via Kavanagh Street.

From 12pm Thursday 4 July 2024, vehicle entry and exit for the Arts Centre Melbourne Car Park will be from Kavanagh Street and Southbank Boulevard.

Construction continues throughout the area, so we recommend allowing an additional 30 minutes for arrival and exit. Plan to arrive early for performances, as late entry will not be allowed until a suitable break.

Please note Sturt Street is permanently closed to vehicles, bikes and pedestrians. We recommend allowing extra time if you plan to park in the Arts Centre or the Ballet Centre carparks. Visit the Melbourne Arts Precinct website for more information and the latest updates.

Flinders Street train station is the closest station to Iwaki Auditorium, approximately 15 minutes’ walk away. For timetable information and trip planning visit PTV.

The nearest tram stop is Stop 17 (Sturt St/Southbank Blvd ). This stop is serviced by tram route 1.

Alternatively the auditorium is a short walk, around 600 metres, down Southbank Blvd from Stop 14 on St Kilda Rd. This stop is serviced by routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72.

Accessibility

Access to the main entrance and foyer of Iwaki Auditorium is via a small number of steps. To access the auditorium without the use of stairs, patrons may enter via a ramp at the front doors to the ABC building, (on the corner of Southbank Blvd and Sturt St.) ABC security will then be able to assist in accessing the auditorium.

Once inside the auditorium, the Stalls seating section has a flat floor with no stairs. Further seating is located in the Balcony, up a flight of stairs. To access these seats without stairs, patrons can speak to ABC security or the MSO front of house representatives, who can provide entry via a lift.

Seating at most performances and events at Iwaki Auditorium is general admission, however accessible seating reservations can be made by calling our Box Office on (03) 9929 9600. This includes removable seats/spaces for wheelchair and scooter-users, seats situated on aisles, or close to entry points.

During performances, walkers are generally stowed just outside the entrance to the hall, and can be retrieved by front-of-house staff at the end of the performance, at interval or upon request.
