To our wonderful Melbourne community,
It is very special to be in your city once again, albeit under extended restrictions. I have been so looking forward to performing for you over the next two weeks, growing my relationship with the Orchestra and leading them through moments of Stravinsky, Holst, Australia’s own Margaret Sutherland and more.
Since arriving in Melbourne two weeks ago, I have been meeting regularly with the MSO team and planning our way forward. I have been impressed by the dedication and determination all teams have demonstrated in this difficult time. All have worked as hard as possible to keep the Orchestra playing, and keep connected with you, our audience. I am thrilled that they continue to leave no stone unturned, preparing scenarios for the day we can resume activities. I still hope to be able to lead the Orchestra on stage in the near future.
More than 50 of our performances have been affected by lockdowns so far in 2021, with all others affected by heavy restrictions on venue capacity. In the face of such a significant impact, the ability of the MSO to adjust to the shifting sands has been inspiring to watch.
I truly hope to see some of you in Hamer Hall while I’m in town.
Thank you for your continued support of our great orchestra.
Kind regards,
Jaime Martín
MSO Chief Conductor
