About this performance
MSO Artistic Ambassadors Tan Dun and Lu Siqing join the Orchestra for a celebratory performance that seamlessly blends Eastern and Western musical traditions.
- This concert opens with the Overture to Beethoven's only ballet. The energetic score represents Prometheus fleeing from heaven after stealing fire from the Gods.
- Lu Siqing performs a stunning violin concerto by Tan Dun, based on the composer's score for the critically-acclaimed martial arts film Hero, in which the character Snow sacrifices her life for the love of her country.
- Paired with the famous Ode to Joy from the final movement of Beethoven’s Ninth, Tan Dun conducts the Australian premiere of his choral concerto, Nine. This work is Dun’s response to Beethoven, co-commissioned by the MSO and the Philharmonic Society of London – the very group who commissioned Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony two hundred years ago.

墨尔本交响乐团艺术大使谭盾和吕思清将与MSO联袂演出，完美融汇东西方的音乐经典。
音乐会将以贝多芬唯一的芭蕾舞剧《普罗米修斯的生民》（又称《普罗米修斯的造物》）序曲作为开场曲目。充满活力的乐曲绘声绘色地描绘了普罗米修斯从众神手中盗取火种后，逃离天堂的场景。
然后是一首动人的小提琴协奏曲，谭盾创作，由吕思清演奏。作品改编自谭盾为著名武侠电影《英雄》创作的配乐。该电影由张艺谋导演，因其运用独特视角来叙述英雄大义和家国情怀而成为经典。
之后是谭盾的合唱协奏曲《九》在澳大利亚的首演，搭配贝多芬第九交响曲终章的著名曲目《欢乐颂》，亦由谭盾指挥。《九》是谭盾对贝多芬的致敬之作，由墨尔本交响乐团和伦敦爱乐乐团共同委托创作——两百年前，也正是伦敦爱乐乐团委托贝多芬创作了《第九交响曲》。
