About this performance
Experience vivid musical portrayals of Shakespearean love stories, including Tchaikovsky's stormy symphonic poem The Tempest, and two depiction's of literature's most famous star crossed lovers, conducted by Jaime Martín.
- Tchaikovsky wrote several symphonic poems based on Shakespeare's plays, with various themes depicting different characters and moments in the plot. The famous ‘love theme’ from Romeo and Juliet is ingrained in the memories of millennials everywhere as the ‘kiss’ in video game The Sims.
- Sergei Prokofiev's score for Romeo and Juliet – written for the famous Mariinsky Theatre – is some of his best known and loved. His music perfectly depicts the romance and tragedy of history's most famous love story.
