About this performance
Award-winning electronic music duo and self-described ‘feminine brothers’, Zaachariaha Fielding (vocals) and Michael Ross (keyboard/producer), aka Electric Fields, are ready to take their already epic sounds and give them the orchestral treatment in their debut concert with the MSO for NAIDOC Week.
The MSO and Electric Fields will perform song cycles of the duo’s work, arranged for orchestra by the MSO’s 2022 Cybec Young Composer in Residence, Alex Turley.
The duo’s music, described as ‘emotionally moving and breathtaking’, and ‘Daft Punk meets Nina Simone in the Deep Forest’, combines pop, soul and electronica with intimate storytelling. Zaachariaha's extraordinary vocals often include the traditional languages of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people. His dancing is also an integral part of the live show, as he becomes the spirit creature for audiences who let their freak flag fly.
“We are so honoured to have our pop and dance tracks orchestrated for a one night only performance with the MSO,” said Michael Ross.
“Woven into the evening will be traditional songs drawing through the root systems of Zaachariaha’s community, creating a sonic Milky Way from the desert sands.”
Electric Fields have lit it up at massive shows across Australia and internationally, including Splendour in The Grass, Golden Plains, VIVID, Groovin the Moo and the Spotify Front Left showcase. They’ve notched six National Live Music Awards (including two wins for Fielding for Best Voice and Best Live Act) and were finalists for a recent ARIA Award for Best Live Act.
