Applications to the MSO Academy 2025 program are now closed.
We are accepting applications for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, bass trombone*, violin, viola, cello and double bass.
*NB program content for bass trombone will be by agreement on a case-by-case basis.
There is no age limit for applicants, though the opportunity is best suited to candidates just embarking on their careers as postgraduates and under the age of 35.
Applications are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens.
- Round 1 applications due Monday 22 July
- Round 1 results notified by Monday 19 August
- Round 2 live auditions Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 September
- Final round interviews Monday 16 September

- CV/resume outlining relevant experience and training, and a one-page cover letter. Applications without a CV and cover letter will not be considered.
- Recorded audition and recording declaration form
Recorded audition requirements
- Auditions must be recorded unaccompanied. Audio only - video is not required
- Each excerpt must be submitted as a separate file, with filenames clearly showing the name of the excerpt – please see below for details on how to submit your recordings
- Recorded auditions must not be edited (other than cuts between excerpts). Please do not apply reverb, compression, or any other effects
- Recorded auditions must all be recorded on the same day, in the same venue
- We recommend using a high-quality microphone in a quiet environment
Only recordings that follow the audition requirements will be accepted.
