Isin Cakmakcioglu has been a member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since migrating to Australia in 1993.
Isin was born in Germany of Turkish parents, studied at the Istanbul University Conservatorium, Hochschule for Musik in Vienna and at The Royal Academy in London.
Isin won second prize in the National Violin Competition in Turkey in 1989. He has performed solo and chamber music concerts in Turkey, Britain, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Israel, Malaysia, Brunei, New Zealand and Australia.
His interest in contemporary music has led to many performances and recordings of work of our time, both, in Australia and overseas. In 2003, he received an Australia-Korea Foundation grant for a concert of contemporary Korean and Australian chamber music concert. One project with the Melbourne Composers League featured a chamber music concert of contemporary Turkish and Australian works, held in the Victorian State Parliament.
Isin was the violinist of Trio Melbourne for seven years and performed extensively, both in Australia and overseas. Their CD of 20th-Century Piano Trios on the Move label received many fine reviews.
