Born and raised in Newcastle, Liam made the move to Adelaide in 2017 to commence studies with Elizabeth Layton at the Elder Conservatorium and has since found a great passion for chamber and orchestral playing. After completing his Bachelor of Music Performance in 2020 with first-class honours, Liam undertook lessons with Evgeny Sorkin in 2021 before starting at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in 2022 under Zoe Black. Now in his final year, Liam is very excited to be learning with both Adam Chalabi and Zoë Black.
During his time at the Elder Conservatorium, he was Concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra, and also performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the orchestra as soloist. Other highlights were performing in a masterclass with James Ehnes, as well as frequent chamber coaching from the Australian String Quartet. Liam has also participated in many Australian Youth Orchestra programs, including as Principal Second Violin in the Curro Chamber Orchestra, led by Natsuko Yoshimoto in 2020. Liam has also enjoyed being a casual violinist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra since 2019, with a personal highlight being performing the Australian premiere of Anna Karenina with the Australian Ballet.
During his studies, Liam was awarded the Kamala Khurana Scholarship, the Marnie Cowan Scholarship, the Gladys Lloyd Thomas Prize, and was the recipient of the John Robert Mitchell Prize and the Eugene Alderman Prize twice.
Liam’s time at ANAM so far has only deepened his love for chamber music. Having formed the ‘Rosina Quartet’ with his close friends, the quartet has received regular coaching from Sophie Rowell, as well as classes from Thomas Carroll and The Brodsky Quartet.
Liam is really excited for ANAM in 2024, and especially can’t wait to work with Lachlan Skipworth on his ANAM set piece.
