The MSO was the first professional Australian orchestra to tour internationally (to New Zealand in 1965) and is one of Australia’s leading cultural ambassadors. We are recognised internationally as one of the top world orchestras and regularly receive exclusive invitations to perform at high profile international venues, festivals and diplomatic events.
We take a long term and strategic approach to our international activity, ensuring that our engagement is broad, meaningful and influential. We have strong relationships across Asia, North America and Europe, valuing people-to-people links that enhance not only the MSO, but the communities in which we engage.
The MSO has a number of valued international partnerships which focus on:
- Cross-cultural collaboration
- Skills exchange and knowledge sharing
- Audience development
- The commission and premiere of new compositions
- Joint performances
The MSO’s international engagement is supported by the Gandel Foundation through the MSO’s Now and Forever Future Fund.
