Community Outreach
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Community Outreach
The MSO Community Outreach Program explores the capacity of a symphony orchestra to contribute to the lives of all members of the wider community beyond the concert platform. It looks at the power of music to connect people and creates opportunities for groups and individuals to interact and collaborate with musicians from the Orchestra in diverse ways.
Current projects include short-term residencies in schools; partnerships with other arts organisations, including theatre companies and galleries; workshops alongside music therapists at the Royal Children’s Hospital; interactive performances in community centres and neighbourhood houses.
Projects are created to cater for the specific needs and requirements of individuals and organisations involved, and can include workshops, masterclasses and creative projects.
Community Outreach can extend into special projects - longer-term engagements - designed to meet a community's or school partner's specific objectives. These projects may require funding from sponsorship and philanthropic organisations.
Due to the MSO's annual concert program, dates for projects need to be chosen as far in advance as possible, with a minimum of four weeks notice.
